| Activities of Entrepreneurship Development Cell in Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering is the first engineering college in Kerala to start Entrepreneurship Development Cell with the financial assistance from AICTE.Activities in this college started from 2005-06,which include conducting awareness camps, expert talks, seminars etc so as to create awareness among student community of starting self ventures having higher monetary benefit rather than sticking on salaried jobs. Training on entrepreneurship development and skill development are being conducted in the college under Entrepreneurship Development Cell. The trainings are so designed that pre-final/ final student of any engineering college can participate. These trainings are being conducted making use of all available infrastructure in this college out of college hours on part-time basis so that even skilled persons of the community can also join. As a part of training special sessions are also arranged to familiarize the trainees various areas of entrepreneurship and scope of availing source of financial assistance. In addition, interaction of successful entrepreneurs are also conducted which will creates confidence on new entrepreneurs. After completion of trainings, follow up actions from Entrepreneurship Development Cell to start self ventures by the trainees are also initiated with the assistance of Industries department, financial institutions and such other organizations as the need arrive. During 2007-08 it is proposed to start a one year Post Graduate Diploma on Entrepreneurship Development in collaboration with the University of Kerala, so that the passed out trainees will easily be accessible to financial institutions. With a view to stimulate and encourage innovative ideas of at least a few students acquired during college classes, setting up of incubation facility in college campus is another idea thought of. In short, these types of activities under Entrepreneurship Development Cell no doubt will create a good number of entrepreneurs by the time the academic course is completed. Entrepreneurship Development Club Innovative ideas from college student deserve proper attention and development. For this, government has directed to start Technology Business Incubator (TBI) in all technical institutions. As a beginning, constitution of entrepreneurship clubs in colleges is envisaged. Accordingly entrepreneurship club consisting 50 students has been constituted in this college. National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) NEN is a national no profit organization supported by leading technical institutes like IIT - Bombay, IIM-Ahemdabad, BITS Pilani for helping the academic institutions in launching and building innovative and high impact entrepreneurship programmes. Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering has joined NEN as a member which will help to develop the activities under Entrepreneurship Development Cell to level of higher quality and expertise. NEN will provide faculties and course materials of national standards helping our entrepreneurship activities more attractive and qualitative. more |
